Police Say Shooting Not Random, Neighbors Question Gate Security

Dunwoody PD say shooter and victim may have known each other

Monday afternoon's shooting outside of the Pointe at Perimeter Apartments in Dunwoody may not have been random, police say.

"It was not random, but we are still trying to find out how they knew each other.  We do not have exactly what was said prior to the shooting," said Sgt. Mike Carlson of the Dunwoody Police Department.

Carlson said it appears there was a brief conversation before Ivan Perez, 32, was shot.

Perez was killed Monday afternoonat 3:43 p.m. as he was walking through the  located at 100 Ashford Gables Drive. Perez was transported to Grady Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Residents of the apartment complex voiced concern Tuesday that the complex was not secure enough, pointing to the front gate which had been left open for several months.

The suspect is a black male who immediately fled the complex at the entrance on Ashford Dunwoody Road.
