Reputed Gang Members Indicted for Killings Including Baby's Death

A 9-month-old was reportedly shot to death, while his mother and grandmother were injured, in a spree of gang violence in DeKalb County.

Four gang members have been indicted on charges stemming from a series of murders in May that included the fatal shooting of a 9-month-old boy, his mother and grandmother.

The DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office said Monday that Oslushla Smith, Kemontay Cullins, Cutrez Johnson and Kayla Dixon have been indicted on various murder and aggravated assault charges.

According to the indictment, the violence began May 3 with a fight at a Stone Mountain apartment complex involving Alexis Malone that escalated as other members of the Bloods street gang arrived, leading to the shooting death of Michael Phillips, reports WAGA TV.

Authorities say Smith lured 17-year-old Malone to a wooded area a few days later and killed her using a rock to her head and face. Investigators believe Smith had become concerned that Malone would reveal details to police about the previous shooting.

Smith and Johnson held off a police SWAT team for hours in Atlanta before surrendering to authorities. Cullins and Dixon turned themselves into police.

The string of killings blamed on the gang violence includes a May home breakin in which 9-month-old Kendarius Edwards was killed and three women were injured, Patch earlier reported. Police said the gunmen hunted them down before opening fire.

According to police, the baby was shot three to four times at point-blank range, says WGCL TV. The three women sent to the hospital included the boy’s mother and grandmother. Police suspect the attack was retaliation for Malone’s murder.
