Scam Alert: Kids Soliciting for Sports Teams

Dunwoody Police warn residents to be careful of kids on the street asking for donations to support a team.

The Dunwoody Police Department is warning residents not to give money to kids on the street asking for money for their sports team: It is likely a scam.

On Thursday, an officer was on patrol near Target when he saw three 16-year-olds asking people for donations for the East Point Bulldogs basketball team. The teens admitted they were from College Park, did not play for any sports team and printed a flyer on their computer, the department said on its Facebook page.

One of the boys had been arrested twice in Dunwoody for theft, police said.

Since they were unable or unwilling to provide valid phone numbers to their parents, the teens were taken to the youth detention center until a parent or guardian could be located.

If approached by this type of scam, Dunwoody police suggest that you politely refuse and instead find a reputable charity that supports youth sports.
