Supermoon Takes to the Skies in Georgia This Weekend

Look to the skies tonight, July 12, to witness the biggest and brightest glimpse of the Supermoon.
This lunar spectacle occurs when the moon is near the Earth, making it appear significantly larger than other full moons.

During this weekend's supermoon, the July full moon will appear about 30 percent brighter and 14 percent closer than a typical full moon, says Space.com.
Georgia residents should have the best viewing in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 12. According to ABC News, the moon will be at its fullest at 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

Scientists advise watching the Supermoon at moonrise or moonset, according to The Huffington Post. Moonrise in the Atlanta area is 7:57 p.m. Saturday, according to the U.S. Naval Observatory, with moonset at 5:51 a.m. Sunday.
The July Supermoon is the first of three. Supermoons are also predicted to return Aug. 10 and again Sept. 9. The August moon is anticipated to look the biggest of the three, according to NBC News.
