Video: Actress Dyan Cannon Talks Cary Grant, Hollywood and Lessons Learned

Along with her book, “Dear Cary: My Life With Cary Grant,” Dyan Cannon, offered wisdom, humor and Hollywood memories to a large audience, at the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta book festival, on Saturday night.

Healed from her troubled marriage to Grant, Cannon reflected on her union with the late actor with love and understanding. Grant died in 1986.
“Cary had a very traumatic childhood,” she said.

Looking back, Cannon, 72, said that when Grant asked her to try LSD, he thought the drug was his gateway to God and peace.
Some memories, however, still tug at her heart, such as when she returned home from the hospital with their newborn daughter to discover, Grant had gotten rid of her Yorkie pooch, of 12 years.
“It took a long time for me to heal,” she said, reflecting on the relationship. “But if you keep making the same mistakes, you’ve got to stop and ask yourself why...I knew if I wrote a book that didn’t mention him, it would leave a gaping hole.”
