A Bottle Bill

As I walk throughout the neighborhoods one thing that seems to be a common sight is broken bottles and cans littering the streets of the city.  Where I m from, we intriduced a "bottle Bill" that was vehemently opposed and failed the first time but through perseverance, it finally passed.

The results were nothing short of remarkable!  Streets were cleaner (safer too for kids and pets) and a whole new industry was born.

The way it works is simple, Every bottle or can that is purchased and additional $.05 is levied on it.  If a six pack of beer cost $6.00, you would path $6.30. BUT when you return the 6 bottles of beer, you get your .30 back!

We had people scouring the streets picking up bottles and cans to redeem them for money and again the results were outstanding!!!

I guess I am somewhat surprised that such a large state does not yet have one.

Now I know that some will say this is a tax...it is NOT.....well it is if you don't return the bottle/can...

I would love to get feedback from people on their thoughts...
