Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School Gets $1 Million Grant

Race to the Top Award earmarked for the creation of a New Teacher Residency Project.

The received a $1 million Georgia Innovation grant the institution will use to create teacher training residency project aimed at training new instructors.

The award, announced Wednesday, funds a partnership between ANCS and the professional education faculty at 's College of Education.

The grant money will support in the New Teacher Residency Project at the school, which has campuses in Grant Park and Ormewood Park.

It's designed to help those teachers within their first three years of teaching develop those skills they need help with and hone their skills. The teachers will be assigned a mentor, take post-degree classes and participate in other activities in the three-year residency aimed at making them better instructors

It is expected that at least 24 early-career teachers will cycle through the residency program, affecting 750 students.
