Atlanta Streets To Come Alive Today

A street festival unlike any other is coming to the Patch.

Atlanta Streets Alive, an open street project that aims to encourage residents to take to the streets and be active, is set for Sunday, May 20 on N. Highland Avenue.

Organizers will close a two-mile stretch of the road and open it only to foot and bike traffic.

Planned outdoor activities include a bicycle parade, sports, yoga, public art and music. The events aim to "build a happier, healthier, and more sustainable Atlanta."

“We’re hoping to build a greater awareness for more active lifestyles and more lively streets,” Jenn Graham, one of the lead organizers of the festival, said.

The street festival will run from Virginia Avenue at North Highland Avenue south to Corley Street in Inman Park.

The route was chosen in an effort to highlight the high bicycle crash rate on North Highland Avenue, second only to Ponce de Leon Avenue.

Parking is limited and organizers urge attendees to travel by bike or MARTA.
