Community Rallies Behind Beloved Goat

After an Animal attack on Tuesday evening, the East Lake Community; located in SE Atlanta is rallying to care for one of the goats residing at the East Lake Community Garden. Django; a rescue goat is the only male goat residing at the East Lake Garden.

On Tuesday evening, the East Lake Community Garden's beloved black and white goat Django was attacked by another animal. Garden managers were alerted to the attack by a community member who called them via phone. Deneah Lopes-Thomas; the garden's Director of Animal Relations and Khari Diop; the garden's Community environmental Educator immediately made her way to the garden to asses the situation. After bandaging up Django's wounds Deneah and Khari rushed Django to the vet.

Once the vet saw Django, it was determined that Django had suffered severe damage to his trachea. On Wednesday Django had surgery to repair the damage. He is currently resting and expected to recover.

The vet taking care of Django has been very generous with his services offering a 50% discount. Even with the discount the East Lake Garden is having a difficult time coming up with the remainder of the balance and has reached out to the community for help. Currently there is a $400 balance for Django's medical care and Django still needs antibiotics and additional care over the next few months.
