Contractor skips town, leaves Grant Park resident in need

Retired schoolteacher's front porch in dangerous condition.

A Crowdfunding effort has been started to help a local retired schoolteacher repair her front porch.

According to the effort’s website, Sylvia Waller is a 45-year resident of Grant Park who needed repairs to her front porch. After paying a contractor several thousand dollars, Waller says the contractor skipped town after learning he didn’t have the proper business permits to complete the job.

As a result, Waller’s front porch has been left unsafe.
