ATLANTA- the Georgia
Micro Enterprise Network (GMEN) will hosts a Town Hall at the Atlanta
Community Food Bank on June 23, 2014 from 10:00am-1:00pm. A distinguished list of speakers and
panelists will discuss issues pertinent to 21st century farming, as
well as the general trends in farming in the future.
The main topic on the agenda will be urban farming. The incidence of urban farming has increased
dramatically over the past couple of years as people have
become more in-tuned with the environment. The issue is relevant because the
world’s population is quickly surpassing the available food (and clean water)
supply. Currently, there are 185 million hungry people in the
world. Fifty million of them reside within
U.S. borders. Since over half of the
world’s hungry reside in urban areas, urban farming is seen as a way to meet
the demand for food in these areas. Q & A following speakers.
