Georgia State University’s data-driven approach to dramatically increase student success has been held up as a national model by The Education Trust.

The Education Trust’s new report, “Learning from High-Performing and Fast-Gaining Institutions,” identifies Georgia State as one of eight universities implementing programs to markedly improve graduation rates over time.
Georgia State is one of a handful of large institutions nationwide using new technology to track students from the moment they arrive on campus to ensure progress to graduation. With the university’s early warning tracking system, struggling students get the intervention they need to get back on track, improve or change their academic path.

The university’s increase in graduation rates — 22 points in the last 10 years — is the most dramatic in the nation. Georgia State was named in November the nation’s top trailblazer for its work in increasing undergraduate retention over the past three years by the Association of Public Land-Grant Universities.
The Education Trust report again singled out Georgia State for its efforts.
“Georgia State’s emphasis on the value of real-time, systemic and systematic use of data and analytics carries great potential,” according to the report.
Earlier this year, the institution was named one of six universities highlighted as models of national higher education reform by the New America Foundation. The foundation cited Georgia State as a “Next Generation University” for its rapid increases in graduation rates and its ability to hold down costs.
