GSU's Cassie Boese Named CoSIDA Academic All-District Second Team

Softball player earns high-ranking by the College Sports Information Directors of America

Georgia State softball player Cassie Boese has been named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-District III Second Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The awards recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance on the field and in the classroom.

Last season, Boese earned first team honors and was placed on the national ballot, becoming just the third Panther to receive that recognition.

The Middlebury, Ind. native was selected as the designated player on the 11-person team and was one of just two juniors. She is the lone member of the CAA to be selected for either of the two teams and one of six student-athletes from the state of Georgia to earn either first or second team honors.

Boese has appeared in 37 games this season, making 24 starts for the Panthers. She is batting .253 and is 2-for-3 in stolen bases, while compiling a .986 fielding percentage.

Majoring in accounting, Boese carries a 4.14 GPA, the highest of any member selected to either the first or second team. She has earned President's List honors and been named CAA Commissioner's Academic Award twice and will likely receive it again in the coming weeks.

Previous GSU softball players named All-District include Catherine Lee (2009, 2nd), Meghan McCoy (2006, 1st) and Jennifer Morgan (1989 and 1990, 1st). McCoy and Morgan all went on to earn second team All-America accolades.

Nominations and voting for the All-America programs are conducted by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America. There is a University Division (Division I programs) and a College Division (DII, DIII, NAIA, NJCAA programs).

Two Academic All-District teams are chosen in each district, with those on the All-District first teams placed on the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.

The Georgia State softball team returns to the field this weekend at Hofstra with a regular season title on the line.  If the Panthers take 2-of-3 from the Pride, State will host the CAA Championship next week as regular season champions.
