Lymphoma Survivors Unite at Georgia Lymphoma Walk
Local lymphoma survivor helps promote awareness and raises funds at annual Georgia Lymphoma Walk on April 11th.

Every seven minutes, someone in the United States is diagnosed with lymphoma — a diagnosis that will change their lives forever. You can join our movement to let the more than 700,000 Americans living with lymphoma know that they are not alone. Join the Lymphoma Research Foundation (LRF) for our annual Georgia Lymphoma Walk on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Wesleyan School in Norcross, GA.
When Dawn Kamara was diagnosed with stage 3 peripheral T-cell lymphoma in 2007, the word “cancer” evoked fear and intimidation. She had never heard of lymphoma nor did she know any cancer survivors. Dawn made the decision to rise above the fear of cancer and live every day with purpose.
In her quest to learn as much as possible about her diagnosis and connect with others affected by lymphoma, Dawn started attending monthly LRF meetings in the Atlanta area. The staff and volunteers at LRF not only provided education and support, but empowered her to not let lymphoma control her life.

Dawn has been a Georgia Lymphoma Walk team captain since 2010, raising more than $3,300 to support LRF’s mission. Her team name, “Stupid Cancer”, came from a button she saw while at Winship Cancer Institute. “The team name gives me power to finally call cancer stupid after it had mentally paralyzed me for years,” said Dawn. “I may have cancer but cancer doesn’t have me.” Dawn hopes to inspire other survivors to find hope in their diagnosis and walk for a cure at the Georgia Lymphoma Walk.
Now in remission, Dawn now speaks from a broad range of topics that empower and motivate individuals to change their lives. She hosts a live 30-minute online talk show “Coffee Talk with Soy” every Saturday morning that is designed to empower listeners to challenge themselves and evoke change. Dawn plans to host a live show during the Georgia Lymphoma Walk on Saturday, April 11, 2015.
