Man Uses iPhone To Nab Suspected Thief

A man and his friends helped nab an iPhone thief on Saturday with the help of his iPhone's GPS-tracking feature. 

At 8:41 p.m., Atlanta police responded to a shots-fired call and met with the victim, who was with friends in the 90 block of Adair Avenue. The victim said he noticed his car light was on and his car had been damaged, Atlanta Police Department spokeswoman Kim Jones said.

He also noticed that his iPhone was missing.

Because the iPhone has a built-in GPS-tracking device, the man was able to track down the phone, which led him to a "pinpointed suspect" in the Adair Avenue/Jonesboro Road area, Jones said.

When the man asked to have his phone returned, the suspect displayed a gun in his waistband.

The man and his friends went back to their car and were fleeing when the suspect fired five shots, two of which struck the car, Jones said.

No one was injured.

The phone was later tracked to a home on Conrad Street.

Police knocked on the door, but the person inside refused to speak with police.

The police obtained a search warrant, which was served by Atlanta SWAT Team.

The phone was confiscated, and one suspect was arrested.
