Two of East Atlanta’s highest-profile national attractions would close if the federal government shuts down.

The Jimmy Carter Library & Museum, administered by the National Archives and Records Administration, would close. So would the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site, which is operated by the U.S. National Park Service.

Both facilities have confirmed to Patch that they would no longer be in operation should the federal government shut down. Neither facility could confirm when they would reopen once the federal budget crisis is resolved.
