Taxi Driver Assaulted

A taxi driver who picked up two passengers at the Edgewood Retail District was assaulted after the passengers diverted him elsewhere.

Taxi driver Theodore Jackson picked up two passengers in front of Morelli's Gourmet Ice Cream (1220 Caroline Street) and was told to take them to the Federal Penitentiary, but an argument ensued and Jackson was shot in the hip, Atlanta Police said.

On Dec. 7 around noon, the two passengers got into an argument with Jackson as they arrived at the penitentiary and told him to go to a second location, 1835 Henry Thomas Drive. Jackson did so and when they arrived at the new location, the passengers argued about payment when a third man came up to the passenger door and opened it. The suspect stood outside the taxi and shot Jackson in the hip before fleeing on foot.

Atlanta Police has released surveillance photos of the persons of interest. No further information is known about them at this time.
