Since I am starting this blog when 5 of the 8 weeks of the internship have already passed, I figured it would be best for me to start from the very beginning. The Bank of America Student leaders program was created in 2004 and aims to "recognize high school juniors and seniors who step outside of the classroom to contribute service in their own communities and beyond." The program includes an 8 week paid internship with a local non-profit organization in one of Bank of America's 44 markets as well as a Student Leadership Summit in Washington D.C..
I found out about this internship from a woman I baby sit for and I immediately decided to apply for this amazing non-profit experience. I hope to one day create a non-profit organization of my own, focused on helping teenagers develop a better understanding of different cultures and gain the confidents to advocate for equal treatment in their communities.
In order to be selected for the internship, there was an extensive application process followed by an interview. The four other interns and I were chosen from over 500 applicants the Atlanta market received this year, creating their first all female team of interns.
