A Sweet Tooth's Romp Through Brazilian Bakery
Powers Ferry Road cafe specializes in authentic, affordable desserts and snacks.
Luiz Goncalves, owner of the Brazilian Bakery on Powers Ferry Road, brings the finest sweet and savory baked goods to Marietta from Brazil. This well-lighted, spacious and clean cafe offers a wide selection of freshly made cakes and pastries. The cafe offers a $5.99 buffet every night, with specials on weekdays offering various soups, salads and entrées.
I was greeted by Goncalves upon entering the Brazilian Bakery. The bakery displays its desserts and pastries in a glass display in the front, each item placed beautifully like a painting.
Goncalves suggested a few items when I told him it was my first visit to his bakery. I ordered the Viennese café, Bolinha de Queijo, Kibe, Brigedeiro, Romeu and Juliet, and many more.

As I sat down, I noticed the painting on the wall reflected the Brazilian desserts. There was free Wi-Fi, comfortable seating with tables for multiple guests, two flat-screen televisions, and fresh bread on display. This is a good place to meet friends for lunch, study-date, and try authentic Brazilian goods.
Soon the Viennese café and the other items I selected were placed in front of me. The café was warm from the bottom and cold from the top, topped with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles. The café tasted rich.

Bolinha de Queijo is fried dough filled with mozzarella cheese. This flavorful dish tasted very light, with warm cheese inside and crispy outside.
Kibe is a popular Lebanese-style snack in Brazil. Kibe is a small, football-shaped, deep-fried dish made of ground beef and wheat. It is seasoned with garlic, onionsand a hint of mint.
Brigedeiro is a chocolate cake with rich chocolate cream filling and chocolate sprinkles on the top. The cake was semisweet, and the chocolate topping added sweetness. Made with milk, butter and chocolate powder, it is slowly cooked until it gets a smooth and rich consistency.
Romeu and Juliet is a pastry filled with guava jelly and mozzarella cheese. This dessert is a flaky and buttery pastry with rich, tropical guava taste.
The Guava cookie is one of the most traditional of the Brazilian cookies. These tasty, butter and sugarcoated cookies are filled with guava paste.
Pao de Queij is round, baked, cheese-flavored rolls. Inside the bread has a chewy and moist texture.
Each dessert was fresh and delicious—with low prices. This bakery captures authenticity from Brazil—bringing flavors thousands of miles from home.
