Arrest Made in Marietta Shooting Death of Taxi Driver's Son: News Near East Cobb

Police are still looking for a second suspect involved in the February incident.

Cobb County sheriff’s deputies have arrested a man police believe was involved in the February shooting death of the son of a taxi driver during an armed robbery inside the taxi.

According to the Marietta Daily Journal, Abdul Griffin faces charges of murder, armed robbery, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Police suspect that Griffin and another suspect robbed taxi cab driver Tomas Arriola-Duran of $180 and then shot Tomas Arriola, Jr., who was riding in the cab with his father, on Feb. 18.

The elder Arriola drove his son to a nearby convenience store to get help. Police found him there at 1:45 p.m., and transported him to Kennestone Hospital. The younger Arriola died at the hospital.

Police told the MDJ that Griffin and his accomplice are suspected of pulling off two similar robberies the same day Arriola was killed, using taxis to deliver them to a condominium complex on Franklin Road. Once at their destination, Griffin and the accomplice would rob the driver; according to police, the unidentified accomplice was the one holding the gun during the robberies.

The second suspect is described as a black male in his late teens or early 20s who was last seen wearing all dark clothing, the MDJ said.
