Brumby Elementary Welcomes Georgia's First Lady
Sandra Deal visits East Cobb school as part of the Read Across America program.
Brumby Elementary School already had created an active reading in the community program when students from five classes were treated to a most special guest on Friday.
Georgia First Lady Sandra Deal stopped by the Powers Ferry Road school as part of the National Education Association's Read Across America campaign.
Mrs. Deal, a retired middle school teacher, read from the book "Agatha's Feather Bed" and took questions from her young audience.

"Do you like living in the Governor's Mansion?" asked a girl.
"Yes I do," Mrs. Deal replied. "It's big and nice but none of the furniture there belongs to me. It's like being on a long vacation. We call it the 'People's House,' and I hope you will come to visit."

Brumby prinicipal Amanda Richie said she put in a request for a possible visit from Mrs. Deal when she heard about her Read Across America ties, and received word last week from the First Lady's office about the visit.
Mrs. Deal also visited Hickory Hills Elementary and Kennesaw State as part of her Read Across America schedule in Cobb.
Richie said that many Brumby students are involved in a reading enrichment program that involves community members and volunteers, including the Rotary Club of East Cobb, who have lunch with students and read with them weekly.
