🌱 Chief Hoskin Returns To Annual Meeting + Lemon Street Chronicles
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in East Cobb.
Hello all. It's me, Carla Varner, your host of the East Cobb Daily. Here are all the most important things to know about what's happening in town.
First, today's weather:
Humid; an afternoon t-storm. High: 84 Low: 69.
Here are the top three stories in East Cobb today:
- After a two-year respite due to COVID, Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin said he was delighted to return to see old friends and tribal members at the Georgia Cherokee Community Alliance's at-large meeting held on Saturday, Jun. 4 at Laurel Park in nearby Marietta. Chief Hoskin updated the hundreds gathered on tribal business and encouraged them to stop by the various services tables set up at the event. The Cherokee Nation is the largest Indian nation in the country with over 300,000 registered members. (Cobb County Courier)
- In the weeks leading up to Marietta's Juneteenth celebration on Jun. 18, the Marietta History Center will present a showing of the four volumes of The Lemon Street Chronicles. The Lemon Street Chronicles is a new oral history series that features interviews of the African American Lemon Street High School alumni who attended the segregated primary and high schools in Marietta and much of Cobb County. The presentation is part of the Diverse Cobb programming from MHC. (Cobb County Courier)
- Two Cobb women participated in the Working Family Party's "Bet on Us" training program for Black women and nonbinary people this past weekend. The two-day annual event teaches participants how to become more involved in the community and advance in the political world. Training continues online after the event, covering topics like fundraising, organizing digitally, and more. (Cobb County Courier)
