🌱 Cityhood Group Decries Cancel Culture + Higher Fines For Tall Grass

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in East Cobb.

Happy Friday, East Cobb! Here's what's happening around East Cobb today.

First, today's weather:

Cloudy with a passing shower. High: 77 Low: 61.

Here are the top three stories in East Cobb today:

  1. The Committee for East Cobb Cityhood accused the East Cobb Alliance of creating a "cancel culture attack" against Owen Brown, founder of the committee for cityhood and owner of the Retail Planning Corp. The East Cobb Alliance, which opposes cityhood, has said that Brown will benefit personally from incorporation. Brown's company manages metro Atlanta shopping centers. (East Cobb News)
  2. A man who barricaded himself in an apartment at the Taylor Apartments on Bellmeade Drive surrendered to the Cobb County Police after hours of negotiation yesterday morning. Residents in the complex called the police reporting that he was shouting and throwing chairs in the parking lot. The man allegedly broke into one of the apartments with a fire extinguisher. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
  3. Marietta city leaders are considering higher penalties for residents who allow their lawn to grow over a foot long. Currently, initial fines are $50, but under the proposed plan a homeowner could be fined up to $500 or 30 days in jail. Marietta Councilwoman Cheryl Richardson said, "We're not looking to criminalize not keeping your lawn maintained, but we want people to recognize your lawns need to be cut." (Fox 5 Atlanta)
