According to the Marietta Daily Journal, 76 homes will be built on a 21.6-acre plot south of Barrett Parkway and Burnt Hickory Road. A neighbor with some local knowledge relayed a rumor that there was a section of trench dating from the Civil War on the property, and an archaeological firm discovered 900 feet of trench on the site.
The MDJ says that 700 of the 900 feet will be preserved and ensconced in a 3 acre “historical open area” plot, preventing anything but the trench from occupying the area. During construction, fences will be erected to keep workers away from the trench, and a historic-looking split-rail fence will be installed to keep the public out of the piece of history.

Historians tell the MDJ that the trench line was built by the Confederate Army during the Atlanta Campaign in the summer of 1864.
