Cobb Board of Education Votes on Pay Restoration Thursday

The Cobb County Board of Education will meet on Thursday evening to vote on whether or not to return the salaries of the school district’s 14,000 full-time employees to levels not seen since 2010.

The Marietta Daily Journal reports that the shrinking economy forced the school district to enact a two percent pay cut in 2010; one percent of that cut has been restored since July 1, now school district officials are seeking to restore the remaining cut salaries.

Board of Education member Kathleen Angelucci told the MDJ that the board was determined to fully reverse the salary cuts should funding be available to do so during fall. It now appears as though the school district has enough surplus cash to afford the $3.7 million measure.

Cobb County Schools Interim Superintendent Chris Ragsdale also hinted to the MDJ that if the budget continues its robust recovery, raises may soon follow for the county’s teachers, custodians, bus drivers, administrators, and all other full-time employees.

The Cobb County Board of Education’s Thursday meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the school district offices at 514 Glover Street in Marietta.
