East Cobb Marine Killed in Chattanooga Shooting

The Sprayberry High School graduate was killed when a lone gunman opened fire on a naval training center on Thursday.

One of the four Marines killed by a lone gunman at two military facilities in Chattanooga on Thursday was a Cobb County native, his family confirmed Friday.

Skip Wells, 21, was killed at a Navy-Marine training center by suspect Mohammod Youssuf Abdulazeez, who was also killed in a shootout with police. Wells graduated from Sprayberry High School in East Cobb and spent time at Georgia Southern before enlisting in the Corps, his family told WSB-TV.

Wells’ mother is an employee with Cobb County Schools, FOX 5 Atlanta said. Sprayberry High School will organize a fundraiser to pay for Wells’ funeral, the station reported.
