Cobb & Douglas Public Health Honors National HIV Testing Day with Free Testing

National HIV Testing Day is June 27, 2017 and aims to raise awareness about the importance of getting tested, understanding your risk, and knowing your HIV status. Cobb & Douglas Public Health will host free rapid HIV testing at the Marietta Public Health Center on June 27, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 1.2 million people in the United States are living with HIV, and nearly 1 in 8 don’t know they are infected. Georgia is ranked 5th in the nation for amount of persons living with HIV, and two-thirds (66%) live in the Atlanta Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA).

“Knowing your status can transform your quality of life,” said Rachel Franklin, Director of Epidemiology at Cobb & Douglas Public Health. “It can be nerve-wracking at first, but knowing your status – especially if it’s positive – can help you get access to care, learn how to reduce HIV transmission, and live a longer, healthier life.”

This free event is open to everyone. No appointments are necessary. All testing results are confidential, available in 20 minutes and no needles or blood are used.
