The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in East Cobb.

Good morning, friends. Carla Varner here with your Wednesday edition of the East Cobb Daily, filled with everything you need to know about what's happening locally.

Here are the top three stories today in East Cobb:

  1. Miles Collins was charged in connection with the murder of Bradley Coleman, a 29-year-old high school football coach, who was murdered during an attempted carjacking at a Peachtree Corners QuikTrip on July 10. According to police, Coleman was putting air in his tires when several men attempted to steal his car. Collins was charged with felony murder and aggravated assault on Aug. 1, making him the second person charged for this crime. (CBS 46 News)
  2. An early morning fire ripped through the Eagles Run Apartments, displacing three DeKalb County families. Neighbors claim that this is one of many fires they've seen over the years at the apartment complex. Harold Brown, a builder whose wife has lived at Eagles Run for eight years, said, "Once that fire gets in the top and goes across, it's a done deal because these buildings ain't made out of nothing." (CBS 46 News)
  3. Last week, the Cobb Board of Commissioners voted to spend nearly $500,000 on an outside consultant to assist county staff in the creation of a Unified Development Code. In a 3-2 vote, three Democrats voted in favor and the two Republicans opposed. Clarion Associates, LLC, a nationwide land-use and planning consulting firm which has provided services for a UDC in Hall County and design and development guidelines in Savannah, is the consultant.
