🌱 Detention Center Power Restored + First Female Monkeypox Case In GA

Here are the top three stories today in East Cobb:

  1. The power to the Cobb County Adult Detention Center has been restored after being out for more than two days in some areas. The electricity was restored early Tuesday morning. Intermittent power disruptions occurred Saturday afternoon at the Towers, an inmate housing area with approximately 600 detainees, causing a loss of electricity. (East Cobb News)
  2. The Avenue East Cobb announced that it will have a groundbreaking celebration to kick off its redevelopment plans in the Central Lot on Aug. 25 between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. The groundbreaking is free and open to the public and will include live music, "lite bites," and beverages. RSVPs are encouraged but guests may be able to walk up and receive complimentary entry. (East Cobb News)
  3. Georgia health officials announced the first female monkeypox case in the state among more than 250. Georgia is fifth in the country in reported cases. Health officials said globally there are about a dozen cases of monkeypox reported in women; however, the overwhelming majority of cases (96 percent) are among gay or bisexual men who have sex with men.
