East Cobb Condo Association Tells Resident to Take Down Flag

An association spokesperson said that the rule against attaching anything to buildings was to protect deteriorating building materials.

An East Cobb condominium owner is outraged after her condominium association told her she was not allowed to fly her American flag.

Mary Lou Olsen told WSB-TV that she put the flag up when her son joined the Marines, and re-installed it when her grandson also joined the Corps. However, her condo association says she will be charged a $25 fine each day the flag is still in place.

According to WSB-TV, the association which governs the Ashborough Village Condos said that they forbid the attachment of anything to exterior walls, including flag mounting brackets and light attachments. They added that the strict rules were put in place to protect repairs to decades old building materials.

The association told WSB-TV that they would permit Mary Lou Olsen to fly her flag if she placed it on a pole no further than four feet from her front door and made sure it was illuminated at night.
