East Cobb Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for Rape, Molestation, Involving Teen Girls

The man admitted to his son in a recording that he had sexually assaulted two 14-year-old girls in October of 2013.

An east Cobb man who was convicted of sexually assaulting two teenagers in October of 2013 has been given a life sentence by a Cobb County judge, the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office announced Monday.

Robert Whipkey, 52, was convicted of rape, statutory rape, aggravated sexual battery, and two counts of aggravated child molestation on Nov 21. He was sentenced on Monday to four consecutive life sentences plus an additional 60 years in prison for his actions.

On Oct. 8, 2013, Ripkey took two 14-year-old girls to the store to buy items for a house party they were attending. Instead of returning them to the party, Ripkey took the pair to his home, where he sexually assaulted them both. That morning, Ripkey was caught on an audio recording admitting to his son that he had sexually assaulted the girls.

Eight other teenagers came forward and claimed Ripkey had acted inappropriately towards them.
