East Cobb Man to Serve 30 Years for Sex with Child

Timothy Joey Carroll pled guilty to 58 counts. He is also wanted on similar charges in Henry and Clayton counties.

MARIETTA, GA -- An east Cobb man has pled guilty to dozens of charges related to sexual abuse of a little girl.

Timothy Joey Carroll, 59, pled guilty on Tuesday to 58 counts, including statutory rape, enticing a child for indecent purposes, and child molestation. Carroll admitted to repeatedly taking the child to a Smyrna motel for sex between 2012 and 2014, as well as to the commission of sexual acts with the girl at his residence in Marietta, all beginning in 2009 when she was just eight years old.

The victim’s parents were present for the plea hearing, with the girl’s mother giving a statement about the devastation the defendant’s actions have left in his wake.

“The defendant used the victim as his own personal sex object for a period spanning many years,” said Assistant District Attorney Susan Treadaway, who prosecuted the case. “He showed her pornography, had her dress in lingerie, and used sex toys on her to effectuate his perverse fantasies. It was clear from his demeanor in court on Tuesday that this is an individual who has no remorse for his abuse of this little girl. It brings great satisfaction to the victim’s family and to the State that this resolution precludes the child from taking the witness stand to relive these horrible memories, and also prevents the defendant from seeing his victim again.”

Superior Court Judge C. LaTain Kell sentenced Carroll to 50 years, with 30 years to serve in prison and the rest on probation. Once released, he will be subject to sex offender monitoring for life.
