East Cobb Social Worker Passes Away

The East Cobb community is mourning the loss of a school social worker who passed away over the weekend.

Kelly Michelle Gutting, 31, died on May 31. She had recently finished her seventh academic year with Cobb County Schools, serving as the social worker for Powers Ferry Elementary School, East Cobb Middle School, and Wheeler High School. Gutting became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in February of 2012, according to her LinkedIn profile.
Prior to her work with the Cobb County School District, Gutting served as the Program Director at St. Philip United Methodist Church, a volunteer at Orphanage Emmanuel in Honduras, and as a clinical intern at the Devereux Treatment Center.

“I worked with Kelly for many years at East Cobb Middle School. She always went above and beyond to help our community. I will miss her smile, her wisdom and our weekly lunch conversations,” Linda Deckner-Glick wrote in Gutting’s online memorial guest book.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at H.M. Patterson and Son Canton Hill Chapel in Marietta. The service will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the Children’s Hopechest Adventures in Missions, or Mercy Ministries.
