Former Cobb Medical Examiner Sentenced To Prison On Drug Charges

Joe Burton was sentenced to eight years in prison after being found guilty of racketeering and violating Georgia's drug laws.

MARIETTA, GA -- Former Cobb County medical examiner was sentenced to eight years in prison on Wednesday. Burton was sentenced in Cobb County Superior Court. Burton, also a former M.E. in other metro counties, was accused of multiple counts of racketeering, fraud in obtaining controlled substances, and violations of Georgia’s controlled substances act. He pleaded guilty to the Cobb charges on July 10.

Burton was sentenced to eight years in prison.

Burton also recently pleaded guilty in federal court for similar crimes. The Cobb sentence will run concurrently with the federal sentence.
