Dennis Callahan, 65, was stricken by a heart attack last Monday while trying to push a stranded motorist’s car away from rising flood waters in Houston, WSB-TV says. Callahan had been living in Houston for two years in order to be closer to his son, who he raised as a single parent in Cobb County.
According to ABC 13 in Houston, Callahan, an oil and gas executive, was able to push his car away from the floodwaters in the 1400 block of West Loop South, but returned to help the other motorist. Michael Callahan told ABC 13 that his father was only a block away from home when he died.
