The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in East Cobb.
Good morning, East Cobb! Like many of you, the Patch team is taking some time off to celebrate Memorial Day, so you won't see a newsletter in your inbox on Monday morning. We will be back on Tuesday with your next update, but in the meantime, here's what's happening around town this holiday weekend.
First, today's weather:
Mostly sunny. High: 80 Low: 60.
Here are the top three stories in East Cobb today:
- Nearly 170,000 Cobb County residents saw an increase in their tax assessments at a higher average than in past years. According to a news release on the Cobb County website, a record number of homes received higher tax evaluations because of the hot 2021 home real estate market. The Cobb County Tax Assessor's office sent out 235,000 annual assessment notices recently. (Cobb County Courier)
- Tadiwa Zinyongo, Andrea Garzon Pena, and Amblessed Nzenwata were named this year's "Inspiring Seniors" by the Cobb County School District, a distinction that recognizes not only their academic achievements, extracurricular and community achievements but also their display of perseverance. Zinyongo will be attending Boston University as a Posse Foundation Scholar, while Garzon Pena accepted a full-ride scholarship to Wingate University. Nzenwata has been accepted into more than 40 colleges. (East Cobb News)
- Cobb County leaders met Wednesday morning to discuss Tuesday's election results, primarily reviewing how to move forward after the cityhood defeat. County Manager Dr. Jackie McMorris stated that "much work remains." Dr. McMorris added, "Tuesday's vote does not end the discussion, but should start new conversations." (cobbcounty.org)
