KSU CCPE Receives Recognition from UPCEA

Medical Assisting certificate named Program of Excellence and Veteran Kenneth Danter honored with the Continuing Education Student Award

The College of Continuing and Professional Education (CCPE) at Kennesaw State University received recognition from the University Professional and Continuing Education Association (UPCEA) South region earlier this month. The Medical Assisting certificate was named Program of Excellence and Navy Veteran Kenneth Danter was honored with the Continuing Education Student Award. The awards will be presented at the UPCEA Mid-Atlantic and South Regional Conference, October 1-3, in Washington, DC.

The Medical Assisting certificate is an innovative, 14-month program that focuses on patient-centered services such as reviewing medical histories, checking vital signs, performing laboratory tests, and administering injections and prepares students to perform a variety of clinical and administrative tasks in the office of health practitioners. The program includes lecture, hands-on training, and clinical externships. Graduates from the Medical Assisting certificate currently maintain a 94 percent pass rate on the National Heathcareer Associations’ Certified Clinical Medical Assistant Exam.

“This is a team effort,” said Andrea Cochran, program director. “Our students give their best in the program, our instructors are committed to their success, and our staff provides essential support. We all work together and our Medical Assisting program reflects that.”

Kenneth Danter received the Continuing Education Student Award for transforming his nine-year service in the Navy into a successful cybersecurity career through professional education. Danter enrolled in CCPE’s Cisco Network Certificate in 2016, broadening his skill set and gaining the ability to manage and optimize network systems. The program also helped him prepare for and pass the CCNA certification exam. In the months that followed, Danter accepted a position as a network engineer. In 2017, he enrolled in the Certified Ethical Certificate and shortly after received his Certified Ethical Hacker certification. Today, he works as a security operations analyst and works alongside a team of professionals who provide information security services.

“It’s an honor to have one of our graduates recognized by UPCEA,” said Rebecca Mattox, program manager. “We have enjoyed watching Kenneth grow, learn, and continue to pursue more knowledge of the networking and security fields. His determination, hard work, and passion for education are qualities to be celebrated.”
