Lassiter High School announces its 2nd Annual Percussion Symposium, to be held Saturday, April 25 in the Lassiter High School Concert Hall. Accomplished middle school, high school and college percussionists from 18 area schools will perform for evaluation by renowned percussionists Dr. John Parks from Florida State University, She-e Wu from Northwestern University and Casey Cangelosi from Concord University.

Dynamic student performances begin at 8:30 a.m. and will be capped by a 7:30 p.m. performance by the Morehead State University Percussion Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Brian Mason. Dr. Parks, Wu and Cangelosi will join in Morehead State’s special performance along with Team Islas, a professional percussion duo.

“It’s our privilege to welcome these world-class musicians to Cobb County,” said Lassiter Percussion Director Mike Lynch. “This symposium is a great opportunity for students and directors to learn and grow while interacting with professional musicians. It will be a day of exciting and entertaining performances for the entire community.”

The mission of the Symposium is to encourage the growth of percussion ensemble activity in a non-competitive environment. Attending students will perform on state-of-the-art instruments provided by Mapex/Majestic and receive professional evaluation. Performances are open to the public beginning at 8:30 a.m. Admission is $7 and funds raised will benefit the Lassiter High School Bands program.
