🌱 Lawsuit Filed Challenges Redistricting + 18th Biennial Quilt Show

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in East Cobb.

Good morning, neighbors! It's me, Carla Varner, your host of the East Cobb Daily. Here's all the community news you need to know right now.

First, today's weather:

A t-storm around in the p.m.. High: 83 Low: 64.

📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in East Cobb who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our East Cobb Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

Here are the top three stories today in East Cobb:

  1. The Southern Poverty Law Center, as well as other organizations and individuals, filed a federal lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for Northern Georgia in Atlanta challenging the redistricting of Cobb Board of Education seats. The suit claims that legislators used race as "a predominant factor" in redrawing the seven school board posts, subsequently weakening black and Hispanic voting power. The suit further alleges that the four white members of the board "forged ahead with a secretive map-drawing process to maintain their tenuous majority over the Board's three Black members." (East Cobb News)
  2. President John Kueven of Wellstar Cobb Hospital will report on the state of healthcare in South Cobb at the Chamber's South Cobb Area Council meeting on Jun. 15 at the EpiCenter. Kueven has been with Wellstar Health System for four years, previously serving as President of Wellstar Paulding Hospital. (Cobb County Courier)
  3. The 18th Biennial Quilt Show in Marietta opened yesterday, bringing the East Cobb Quilters back to the Civic Center. The show will run through Saturday, Jun. 11. Nearly 400 quilts will be on display along with vendors, raffles, and more. (Cobb County Government)

Are you an East Cobb resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?

Bloomberg recently asked experts where they'd invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.

Thinking you can't afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.

Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here's why:

  • Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
  • Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
  • Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)

To learn more, visit Masterworks.io, where East Cobb Daily readers can skip the waitlist.
