Live at the Cobb Commission Meeting

We'll be updating events at today's Cobb Board of Commissioners meeting as they happen, with occasional updates on Twitter.
9:10 a.m. -- Members of various EMS agencies that service Cobb are receiving a proclamation from South Cobb commissioner Woody Thompson. It is National EMS Week from May 15-21.
9:13 a.m. -- East Cobb commissioner likely will not be in attendance, according to chairman Tim Lee. Ott is a Delta Air Lines pilot.

9:22 a.m. -- Nominees have been introduced for the 2011 Martha Logue Excellence in Leadership Award, which is given to a Cobb government employee. The winner is Capt. Jeff Patellis, public safety director for the Cobb County Animal Control department. It has been given since 1993.
9:27 a.m. -- The only citizen signed up during the public comment section is East Cobb resident Craig Harfoot, who's upset about the Cumberland Community Improvement District's support of the upcoming regional transportation SPLOST.

"It's time to consider boycotting funding" of the CID, he said. "We need to put pressure on them to stop this. This is money being used against us."
The Cumberland and Town Center CIDs were the biggest financial supporters of the recent Cobb SPLOST that passed by less than 100 votes.
Harfoot, by the way, is a frequent speaker at commission and town hall meetings on government spending issues such as this.
In fact, I can't remember attending such a meeting without him standing up and sounding off on these topics.
9:32 a.m. -- Commissioners unanimously approve the consent agenda, which includes the granting of an appeal for a liquor license for Auriliio's Pizza, which is slated to open on Johnson Ferry Road.
Also approved is the establishment of a committee to approve design changes and other community improvements in the Mableton area.
9;36 a.m. -- The commissioners also unanimously approve various and sundry transportation project change orders.
9:37 a.m. -- North Cobb Commissioner Helen Goreham is telling us today is Water Conservation Day. So you know what to do, especially with the temperatures reaching into the 90s.
9:37 a.m. -- Commission chairman Tim Lee is reminding citizens of the Cobb Citizens Oversight Committee meeting at the Jennie T. Anderson Theatre at the Cobb Civic Center. This is the group that is conducting a financial review of county spending. The meeting begins at 7 p.m.
9:39 a.m. -- And we stand adjourned. This is about as short as commission meetings go.
