Man Wanted for Attempted Murder of Marietta Cop Caught in Mississippi

The suspect was allegedly involved in a domestic dispute before fleeing from police and attempting to fire upon an officer.

Marietta police have announced the capture of a man they say tried to shoot one of their officers during a foot pursuit last week.

According to the department, 25-year-old Keyandre Funches was arrested in Mississippi on Friday by the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Task Force and the U.S. Marshal’s Service. Funches had been on the run since Jan. 16, police said.

Funches was allegedly involved in a domestic dispute during the early morning hours of Jan. 15 when a Marietta police officer came to the scene to investigate. Funches was discovered in the parking lot of the apartment complex on Franklin Road, but soon ran from the officer, police said.

During the course of the chase, Funches allegedly took cover behind a tree and raised his weapon to fire at the officer. Evidence suggests that Funches’ gun malfunctioned and failed to fire properly.

Funches eluded search parties in the immediate aftermath of the incident and was considered armed and extremely dangerous by authorities.
