More Than 46K Cobb Votes Have Been Cast In Nov. 6 Election

Stacey Abrams and Brian Kemp are running in America's most watched governor's race.

ATLANTA, GA -- More than 46,000 Cobb County voters have already cast their ballots in next Tuesday's Georgia midterm elections. According to figures released Monday by the Georgia Secretary of State, 46,371 ballots have been cast in Cobb, and more than 1 million have been cast statewide in early voting locations throughout the state. Georgia has more than 7,000,000 registered voters – an all-time record – eligible to take part in this November's election.

Early voting ends Friday, Nov. 2, in the midterms, an election in which Stacey Abrams is seeking to become the nation's first African-American female governor in history. Republican Brian Kemp is aiming to maintain the GOP's stronghold on the office that it's enjoyed since 2002. National Democrats also hope that Georgia will become a swing state, as the nation's midterm elections are widely being seen as a referendum on President Donald Trump's White House administration.

Every recent poll has shown the race between Kemp and Abrams to be a virtual tie, with neither candidate polling at or above 50 percent in order to avoid a December runoff. Kemp is also Georgia's secretary of state, and on Monday, former President Jimmy Carter urged Kemp to resign his office before next Tuesday's election.
