Nearby: Home Depot Seeks Abatement for Marietta IT Center

If the home improvement giant gets tax concessions, it will take over an empty 250,000 sq. ft. building off Franklin Road.

Atlanta-based The Home Depot is asking the Development Authority of Cobb County for a tax abatement in exchange for converting a vacant building near Dobbins Air Reserve Base into a new IT center.

The Atlanta Business Chronicle, quoting the Marietta Daily Journal, reports that The Home Depot is seeking a $200 million loan for projects which include renovating the building at 2161 Newmarket Parkway, but is waiting for approval of a tax abatement from the county before signing a lease on the 250,000 sq. ft. property.

If the project is approved, the new IT center will create over 500 new jobs in the Marietta area, the Chronicle reports.
