Here are the top three stories today in East Cobb:
- Officers from the Cobb County Police Department honored Chuck Smith, a retired officer who died from COVID-19 complications, by showing up for his daughter Kaylee's high school graduation this past weekend. The Cobb County Police Department posted on Facebook, "Congratulations Kaylee, we know your father is very proud of you." Officer Smith is survived by his wife, Kim, his daughter, Kaylee, and son, Connor. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
- Cobb County is the second most diverse county in the state next to Gwinnett. The U.S. Census Bureau Diversity Index places Cobb County at 67.3 percent. The overall index for the state is 64.1 percent. (Cobb County Courier)
- Sunny skies with highs in the lower 90s are expected for today with light northwest winds. The night will bring temperatures in the upper 60s. Thursday's outlook includes sunny skies with a chance of thunderstorms and showers in the afternoon with winds up to 5 to 10 mph. (Cobb County Courier)

- Get involved with the North Cobb Library Garden Club's community garden. Come out on Monday evenings - Jun. 6 and 13, and Jul. 11, 18, and 25 - to help plant, weed, water, harvest, and tend the garden. (Facebook)
- Join the Cobb County branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) as they celebrate Juneteenth with food, entertainment, vendors, music, and more. The event, co-hosted with Marietta city, will take place Jun. 19 from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Historic Marietta Square and Glover Park in downtown Marietta. (marietta.com)
- East Cobb Library has themed collaborative journals on various topics such as music/movies, fan fiction, and ongoing stories for teens and tweens! Tween and teen creators, thinkers, and individualists are welcome to pick up a journal, check it out, fill up a few pages, and then return it for the next participant. (Facebook)
