Pope Falls Short in 1A-4A Lacrosse Championship

Lambert breaks open close game with scoring barrage and wins, 14-7.

The entered the 2011 GHSA 1A-4A Lacrosse Championship game as the underdog to the host Lambert Longhorns. And they were comfortable with that role.

"Our kids are loose - no pressure here," said community/assistant coach Jerry Douthit.

The Greyhounds trailed the Longhorns in the third quarter by the score of 8-4, but put together a run of three goals to make the score 8-7 midway through the fourth quarter. That was as close as Pope got.

The Longhorns then started a scoring run of their own - exploding for six unanswered goals over the final five minutes and controlling possession of the ball.

The final score was Lambert 14, Pope 7.
