Proposed New Atlanta Suburb Plans Delayed

A group of supporters for a new East Cobb city have delayed their plans until 2021.

EAST COBB, GA — Plans to form a new city in East Cobb are being delayed by a group of supporters until 2021, reports CBS46. The group says they will no longer find a lawmaker who can sponsor a bill with a referendum to create the city during the 2020 session of the General Assembly.

Spokesman David Birdwell tells the station that supporters for the Atlanta suburb will push for the legislation in 2021.

Recently, Republican lawmakers said that without finalized details, they couldn’t support the plan. In a news release The Committee for Cityhood in East Cobb stated that, “The exact services the new city would provide and its boundaries have changed over time, and conservative lawmakers like Reps. Bert Reeves, R-Marietta, and Ginny Ehrhart, R-west Cobb, want those details finalized before deciding whether to throw their support behind it,” reported the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
