🌱 School Logo Pulled For Review + Mo'Nique Signs New Netflix Deal

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in East Cobb.

Hey, neighbors. Carla Varner here with your Thursday edition of the East Cobb Daily, filled with all the community news you need to know right now. Keep scrolling for the scoop...

First, today's weather:

A heavy t-storm in the p.m. High: 89 Low: 72.

Here are the top three stories in East Cobb today:

  1. The Cobb County School District pulled a redesigned logo for East Side Elementary School in East Cobb after parents and community members complained that the image looks like the eagle crest from Nazi Germany. The district sent a note on a non-official school-related Facebook page late Monday, stating that the school is aware of the concerns about the logos and will review the designs to determine needed changes. On Monday night East Side principal Marcia Clark sent a similar message to parents. (East Cobb News)
  2. Former Wheeler and University of Georgia basketball player, Derek "D.A." Layne is sponsoring his fourth annual Bag-N-Swag, a back-to-school book bag and school supplies giveaway event, on Saturday, Jul. 23 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Grace Marietta Church. The free event will be filled with fun and festivities including food, snow cones, face painting, a bounce house, and entertainment. (East Cobb News)
  3. Atlanta comic Mo'Nique signed a deal with Netflix for a stand-up special. The deal came through just weeks after the comedian settled a discrimination lawsuit in which she accused the streaming service of systematically underpaying Black women, citing that she was offered $500,000 for a special compared to $11 million for Amy Schumer and $20 million for Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock. Mo'Nique announced the deal on Monday with the notation: "I done came on home to Netflix." (The Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
