According to WSB-TV, the hole opened up on private property adjacent to North Fairground Street. The hole is approximately 20 feet deep and 40 feet across, and has already destroyed several trees. Repair crews told WSB-TV that a loose connection between pipes rusted away and caused water to wash out the surrounding ground.

The hole is close enough to North Fairground Street and nearby businesses to cause city officials some concern; according to WSB-TV, crews will work to mitigate the damage throughout Monday despite a forecast calling for even more rain.
