Sope Creek Celebrates Octoberfest
The East Cobb school marked the start of fall with a festival last weekend that included a pumpkin auction and visits from elected officials.
Georgia State Rep. Sharon Cooper and Cobb Board of Education Vice Chair Scott Sweeney joined principal Martha Whalen, students and parents last Saturday for Octoberfest, the school's fall festival organized by the Sope Creek PTA.
“We were thrilled Representative Cooper and Mr. Sweeney attended our festival and shared in the enthusiasm of our education community,” said Whalen.
This year’s event featured a pumpkin auction, inflatable rides, local performers, dunking machine, cakewalk and bake sale. The Chattahoochee Nature Center presented its “On the Road with Reptiles” program, students got their face painted or hair “done,” and localmerchants offered items for raffle and a grilled lunch.

Cooper and Sweeney met parents, students and teachers at the event, and they learned about the strides Sope Creek Elementary is making in education – in the traditional classroom setting, using online programs as a supplement to classroom teaching, and how good nutrition and physical education has a demonstrated positive impact on student performance.
