Taylor English Duma LLP announces that senior counsel Michael H. Trotter has been honored with a proclamation from the City of Atlanta for his significant contributions to the local community. Trotter received this honor during the March 21 Atlanta City Council meeting.
Trotter has been active in various community and political affairs working to reform and improve the City of Atlanta. He was a principal founder of Good Government Atlanta, Research Atlanta, and the Atlanta Committee for Public Education. He served as a member and as co-secretary of the Atlanta Action Forum for more than 20 years. He is the former director of Central Atlanta Progress, the Buckhead Coalition, the Butler Street YMCA, Butler Y Homes, Fulton County Taxpayers Association, the United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta, Atlanta Commission on Crime and Juvenile Delinquency, and the Atlanta Children & Youth Services Council. He also served as a member of the City of Atlanta's Urban Design Commission, as a staff attorney for the Atlanta Commission on Crime & Juvenile Delinquency, as a member of the advisory board to the Clark/Atlanta University Business School and as a trustee of Brown University, where he was a member of the Student Life and of the Minority Affairs Committees for many years.
In the early 1970s, Trotter served on the Biracial Committee appointed by the Federal District Court to advise the Atlanta Board of Education on the creation and operation of an integrated school system. Good Government Atlanta was recognized for its role in moving Atlanta forward by helping put the right political leadership in place. The group recruited biracial candidate slates for the Atlanta School Board and Atlanta Board of Aldermen. In addition to this work, he chaired the organizing committee that created the John W. Cox Jr. Prize and Scholarship at Morehouse College, and helped institute the Ashley Bryan Project at the Auburn Avenue Research Library on African-American Culture and History.

At Taylor English, Trotter practices corporate and finance law. He is the author of two books on law firm management, operations and economics. His studies of law firm growth and change have combined the perspectives of a successful practicing attorney, an experienced law firm manager and historian. He is also a frequent columnist, media source and speaker at industry events.
Trotter earned his undergraduate degree from Brown University, his master’s degree from Harvard University and his law degree from Harvard Law School.
